Thanneer Komban, a wild elephant, died after being tranquilized and relocated to Bandipur forest in Karnataka. The elephant, known for its “affinity to cold water,” had wandered into Mananthavady town in Wayanad, Kerala, causing panic before being tranquilized and moved. The cause of death was a heart attack, possibly triggered by stress and trauma from the tranquilizing process, a 40cm wound on its thigh, and a septic wound on its genitals. The elephant’s death sparked controversy and raised questions about the handling of wild elephants.
A cruel act involving a photoshoot took place in front of the dead elephant lying in the vehicle, with the Nilambur DFO and the Kerala Forest Officers posing in a primitive manner.
