Animal Birth Control Centers (ABC) are controlled by Kudumbasree a government-recognized organization empowering women’s entrepreneurship. These centers were money-making centers and a modus operandi of ill treatment in all centers. We have received some horrible photos of cruelty in Animal Birth Control Centre at Mavelikkara. Under stringent starvation dogs eaten other feeble dogs in the cage. The time and source of the photos were unknown but had filed a complaint in the police station. We have visited number of times at the centre and police station on this matter
Due to lack of evidence and time of the incident the police could not arrest anyone related to the mass killing. It was a common incident at those times and we had approached the High Court, and the court ordered to shut down all the centres in the state.
We have approached the court with numerous photo evidence of cruelty and have challenged the accreditation of these units without securing the legal authentication of the Animal Welfare Board of India. The court had suspended the Kudumbasree units from conducting the Animal Birth Control programme.
