A fishing competition was organized by Muttinakam Vattakkal Brothers in a back water at Varappuzha. The entry fees were Rs. 300/-, for the largest fish caught – Rs. 3001/-, and the maximum number of fish –Rs. 5001/-. Fishing is illegal in India except for hereditary fishermen. Fishing from a river or government property will result in severe fines and imprisonment. After the intervention of the Superintendent of Police, Aluva the organizers forced to drop the competition.
