Contempt of Court: Illegal Activity in Athirappilly Plantation

In the WP(PIL) 39/2026 regarding the illegal occupation of forest land by Plantation Corporation of Kerala, after the lease expired. Despite a stop memo from the Forest Department, pineapple plantations continue in Athirappilly and Kallal Estates. The High Court issued an Interim Order on 4 June 2026 prohibiting unauthorised activities on the forest land.. Despite this order, the Plantation Corporation has continued plantation activities. The Range Forest Officer, Mr. Raghulal T, attempted to enforce compliance, but the Respondent hesitated, leading to a report with evidence submitted to the Divisional Forest Officer on 19 June 2026. A petition on Contempt has been filed in the High Court and was closed with a bizarre order. The judge stated that the Contempt petion is submitted prior to the judgment, so not survive.
