Atrocity against Poor Lady Feeding Stray Dogs

One of our main goals when we started our group in 2018 was to safeguard street dog feeders and caregivers. In October 2019, Angels Nair visited the Ezhumattoor Panchayat office to learn about the notice Sindhu had received for feeding and caring for stray dogs. Sindhu, a poor woman, was constantly threatened, and the locals and the local government poisoned the dogs she was caring.

After the meeting with the Panchayat president and the secretary, local goons roughed up Sindhu and Angels for his support of the dog feeder. There was a threat and an attack in front of the government office. Angels Nair had filed a complaint with the local Koyipram police station. The station officer had called in angels to take a statement. Instead of documenting the statement, the Station Officer informed the Panchayat’s president and secretary, allowing them to threaten dire consequences. The cops had not taken any action in this regard also.

The president and secretary of the Panchayat called up local thugs to rough up Sindhu and Angels in vengeance for supporting the dog feeder Sindhu, rather than addressing the stray dog issues. An assault and threat were carried out in front of the office. A complaint had been lodged with the local Koyipram police station by Angels Nair.  Angels had been summoned by the station to record a statement. The Station Officer informed the president and secretary of the Panchayat, allowing them to threaten with severe consequences, rather than recording the statement. No action had been taken by the police.

We have moved a petaton with the High Court. The court had directed the police department to register a complaint. Accordingly, a case was registered with the Magistrate Court, Adoor in 2020.

Further, the court has issued an Interim Order to the state government to take action against the police officers for not registering the crime.

Meanwhile, the police department submitted an appeal to stay the action against the police officers under WA1679/2020. Since the case is pending with the High Court of Kerala
